Weekly Announcements for 4-1-19

*NEW on this week’s announcements:
(Full Band) A big “thank you” to all the volunteers, workers, and performers who made the 1st annual LPS Music Festival a success. Thanks also to the families who donated desserts and other items!
(Full Band) Our Pre-Contest Concert is in 1 week. 7:00 pm in the South Gym.
(Horn Players) Horn Boot Camp for all who registered is tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2nd at UNL from 1:30-6:30. Bring your horns home after school today, as the band room will be closed tomorrow. If you have not registered but would still like to go, see Ms. Shively!
(Full Band) Participation in a UKE MASTER CLASS and COMPLIMENTARY tickets ARE available for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain performance held at the Lied Center on Sunday, April 14th, 2019 at 4:00 PM. Students must attend the Master Class in the morning of the same day (11:30 AM) to be eligible to attend the performance later in the evening. See the attachment for full details. (Full Band) Performance times for the District Music Contest on April 15 th are as follows: Wind Ensemble: 8:30 am, Wind Symphony: 10:10 am, Symphonic Band: 11:50 am, and 9th Grade Band: 2:55 pm. We will have more details later regarding when students are excused from classes, lunch plans, etc. Keep in mind that 9th Grade Band is the only group that we provide a bus for and all students in other ensembles need to plan transportation to and from Lincoln High.
(Jazz Bands) Jazz Café is coming in about a month! It will be on May 6th at 7:00 pm in the Cafeteria. This year’s Jazz Café is special, because we are partnering with the Art Department, who will be exhibiting art students’ work at the same event! More specific details for Prep Jazz and Blue Note performers will be rolled out as we get closer to the event.
(Blue Note) Blue Note will be performing at the VA Hospital on Friday, May 17th from 11:00-12:30. If you would like to attend, you are more than welcome! Mr. Kenney will dismiss Blue Note members for the appropriate times.
(Full Band) Leadership applications and video upload are due this Friday!
(Full Band) Drum Major clinics are April 17th, 18th, and 22nd, 3:15-4:15 pm. Tryouts are on the 23rd.
(Full Band) Band Letter applications are due May 1st.
(Full Band) Woodwind Choir meets Tuesday and Friday mornings at 7:20 am in the strings room. Students in Prep Jazz should go to Prep Jazz until Jazz Cafe.
(Tri-M) There will be a Tri-M meeting this Thursday in the Strings Room to talk about membership auditions and reflect on the Music Festival.

(Jazz Bands) Here is a list of all remaining jazz performances this spring: April 25th/26th – UNC Greeley Jazz Festival – Blue Note only May 6th – “Jazz Café” at Lincoln East (cafeteria) – All jazz bands.
(Full Band) Mark your calendars: The 2019 Band Informational Meeting for Parents AND Students is Thursday, May 9th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium. This meeting is MANDATORY.
HOW CAN YOU HELP THE LINCOLN EAST BAND?
You’ve heard us say again and again that band is family. That’s because our students and their parents lean on one another, support each other, step up to help when help is needed and are there for each other. The Band needs your help, and we hope you will be there for us! We need your support more than ever. HOW CAN YOU HELP? There are several options for you to help the band:
Join the Booster Board for the 2019-2020 Year–we are looking for a Vice President (a two year commitment) and a Communications Director (to start taking over the current Director’s duties next year)
Volunteer–We are looking for several Committee Chairs (August Tailgate Party, Booster Blitz, Water Coordinator, Scholarship Committee, Gift Wrapping, Amazon Wish List Coordinator, etc.). We also need volunteers to help out during our upcoming fundraisers, special events and football games.
Monetarily–Without financial support from our band families, we don’t have a band program. We need your support now more than ever!
- We NEED parents to pay their annual parent contribution of $100 or more (this is the money we use to support the band’s operations)–if you haven’t paid your family contribution yet, please do so now!!! We will set up a payment plan for you if necessary.
- Attend/Participate in fundraisers and special events–Tailgate Party, Booster Blitz, Craft Fair, Gift Wrapping, Baker ‘s Chocolate, Marcus Theater Tickets, The Mill Coffee, Tea, Cocoa and Cider, etc.
- Write a check–we will always and gladly accept donations
- Support the Lincoln East Band Amazon Wish List
What is an Amazon Wish List? It is a registry service on Amazon.com that allows people and groups to create a wish list and share it online so others may select gifts on that list. The East band directors have put together a list of the instruments and equipment they need the most. The list will be updated periodically as items are purchased and new items are added to the wish list.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? Please visit our wish list at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/27JFB19Y1WUC1. We have items ranging in price from $9.00 to $1,100, and everything in between. We have something for every budget!! If you are interested in purchasing any items on the list, just select it and complete your purchase. It’s just that easy! Questions? MONTHLY BOOSTER PARENT MEETING FOR APRIL
Please join us for our monthly Booster parent meeting this Thursday, April 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room. Everyone is welcome to attend. IT’S A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING!!! We will be voting on next year’s board members. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Come to the meeting and vote!
WE NEED BOARD MEMBERS FOR 2019-2020!!
It’s not too late to add your name to the ballot!! We DESPERATELY need a Vice President and a Communications Director.
Do you like to be in the know? Help make important decisions? Do you have ideas about how to make the Boosters an even better organization? Do you like to lead? If this sounds like you, then please think about running for Vice President. This is a 2-year position with the VP becoming the President in the second year.
Do you have ideas about how to improve communications between the band teachers, the board and parents? Maybe you have an interest in marketing/public relations or you like to write. Maybe you just like being the first to deliver the news. If so, please consider becoming the Communications Director. This is a position you can make your own. Whatever ideas you have to enhance communications, you can pursue!
HOW CAN YOU HELP? Please consider adding your name to the ballot for one of these awesome positions!!!
It’s hard to believe that the end of the year and the final concerts are coming so quickly! It’s been an amazing year full of two stellar marching shows, wonderful individual and ensemble accomplishments, and impressive band performances. We have a wonderful group of young musicians and we are sure you would agree that we could not be more proud of them!
Every year, we like to thank our band directors and band booster president for the vast amount of work and hours they put into making our band fantastic. At the final concert in May, we like to take a few moments to say “thank you” to these vital members of the band program and give them a small token of our appreciation. To be able to do that, we ask for voluntary donations from our band families to cover the cost of these gifts.
We sincerely appreciate your donations to help us show our gratitude for all the hard work over the year.
If you are interested making donations for these gifts, you may:
- Hand-deliver your donation to our Treasurer or Vice President at the April 4th or May 9st booster meetings;
- Mail your donation to the school: ATTENTION: BAND BOOSTERS (1000 S 70th St, Lincoln, NE 68510); or
- Drop off your donation in the main office and note ATTENTION: BAND BOOSTERS on the memo line.
Donations are strictly voluntary and we are happy to accept any amount. We would like to have all contributions in hand by Friday, May 10h so that we can present these appreciation gifts during the concert on Tuesday, May 14.

WANT TO SHARE YOUR CHILD’S SENIOR PICTURE IN THIS YEAR’S BAND VIDEO?
We are working on the year-end band video which will be shown at the last concert in May. If your child is a senior, and was in band for the entire 2018-2019 school year, we would like to feature their picture in the video. HOW CAN YOU HELP?? If you have a senior picture of your child that we may use, please forward it to the Booster Board at email@example.com by April 26th. Prior to sending the picture to us, we ask that you contact the photographer who took the picture to obtain any necessary releases so that we may use the photo. If we do not receive a senior photo from you, we will use your student’s band photo from this year instead.
CALLING FOR PICTURES FOR THE YEAR-END VIDEO
HOW CAN YOU HELP?? We are looking for pictures from ALL of the bands (marching, concert, jazz, pep, show choir, musical pit, etc.) as well as our special events (Tailgate, Booster Blitz, football games, basketball games, competitions, Craft Fair, giftwrapping, band camp, Tri-M Music Festival, Cadenza Concert, Tri-M Souper Bowl, Solo and Ensemble Contests, etc.) to add to the video. If you have pictures that we can use, please email the Booster Board at firstname.lastname@example.org by April 26th, and we will send you an invite to upload those pictures to the band’s Shutterfly shared account. Thanks!!!
SIGN UP TO BE A MEMBER OF THE EAST BAND SHUTTERFLY SHARED SITE
The Band Boosters have set up a shared Shutterfly account for band parents to post and share band pictures. If you have any band pictures that you would like to share with other band parents, or if you would like to access band pictures taken by other parents, please email the Executive Board at email@example.com and ask to be added as a member. We will then add your email address to the membership list. You will receive an invitation from Shutterfly to join the site.
