(Full Band) AWAY football game this Thursday night, Sept. 27th.  See attached itinerary.9-27-18 Itin.doc (3)

(Full Band) 9th Grade band will need to make arrangements to come in next Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. so we can rehearse the parade block for Grand Island.

(Full Band) All-State applicants: We will record on the night of the last AWAY game, this Thursday, September 27th. Stay tuned for times. If you are scheduled to play at the game, you need to go first and then head down to the stadium. SCALES HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED!

(Full Band) U.S. Marine Band will be performing at the Lied next Tuesday, October 2nd. This is one of the best concert bands in the world.

(Full Band) Come support your fellow musicians! The first concert of the year in the music department features Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, 9th Grade Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Symphony Orchestra, and East Singers. Concert time is 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 24th in the East Auditorium.

(Full Band) Monday, September 24th is the deadline to register for the Doane University Honor Band. One web link is for general information: www.doane.edu/ffw-students and one web link is for audition materials: www.doane.edu/ffw-student-application . There are two paths to take for this group: auditioned and non-auditioned. If you audition, you are guaranteed a spot in 1 of the 3 bands. If you don’t audition, you are not guaranteed a spot.

(Full Band) Please get the word out about “Band Night” on October 5th. We are inviting any past Spartan band members back to play in the stands with us that game. If you are still in touch with recent graduates let them know! Instruments are not provided.

(10-12 Band) Due to this Thursday’s adjusted schedule there will be no early band. Testing will go from 8:00-9:45 and period 1 is from 10:00-10:33. Order of classes will be 1,2,4,5,6,3,7,8.

(10-12 Band) Leadership meeting every Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m. Mellos & Drum Majors have treats this week. Trombones & Baritone are next week.

(9th Grade Band) Our 2nd memory check will be due Sunday night and it is over St. Thomas.

Reminders from previous announcements:

(Full Band) Wayne St. College Festival of Honor Bands will be held on Saturday, January 26th. You will find ALL audition instructions and materials at www.wsc.edu/honor-band . Please follow the Audition Instructions found on the website when making and submitting auditions.

(Full Band) The October 5th Football Game will be “Band Appreciation Night”. It will be full of Spartan band members: 9th grade will perform at Pre-game, Alumni will sit in the stands with us, 8th graders will also sit in with us, as well as honoring our Band Seniors at halftime. Stay tuned for more details.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COMPETITIONS

As you know, we have several marching band competitions coming up, including:

Capital City Marching Band Championships (this Saturday, September 29th)

Harvest of Harmony Parade and Field Show in Grand Island (Saturday, October 6th)

LPS Competition (Saturday, October 13th)

NSBA State Competition (Saturday, October 20th)

We need SEVERAL volunteers to help with these competitions, and especially with Harvest of Harmony (“HoH”), including pit crew helpers, uniform and Color Guard assistants.

For HoH we will need several parents to ride the buses to and from Grand Island as chaperones/assistants throughout the day.  HoH is really an “all hands on deck” event and we need as many parents to help us possible. It is a long day, but it is a lot of fun and it’s a great way to get to know our band students and other parents!

DINE OUT AT RUNZA – Tuesday, September 25th

Everyone has to eat, right?  Why not have dinner out while supporting the East Band!  Please come and have dinner at Runza at 70th and Van Dorn on Tuesday, September 25th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.   No need to tell them you are there to support East.  A percentage of the sales during that time period will support the band!!!

PHOTO MAKE UP DAY – Tuesday, October 2nd

The photo make up day for outstanding photos products/photo buttons for Color Guard and any band members who did not have their pictures taken on August 3rd, has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 2nd at 2:15 in the Auditorium.

YARD SIGNS ARE READY

 Now you can show your neighbors how proud you are of your band student!!!

If you ordered a yard sign with your student’s name on it, your order is ready for pick up!  Please contact Miki Valenta at eastbandexecutiveboard@gmail.com to make arrangements.

LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE BAND?? Consider Joining the Booster Board for the 2019-2020 Year

The Booster Board is seeking new board leadership next year to replace outgoing members.  We are looking for:

Vice President (2-year commitment with accession to President in the second year) – assists with fundraisers/identification of project chairs, assumes duties of President when necessary, assists with board operations and other duties as assigned

Treasurer – keeps all financial records of the Band Boosters, disburses all monies as required, prepares monthly reports and other duties as assigned

Communications Director/Media – responsible for distributing communications to the parents from band directors and Booster Board, prepares flyers and materials for fundraisers, prepares sign ups for volunteer opportunities, ads for marching contests, maintains band website and coordinates with social media band leaders about posts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. and other duties as assigned

Serving as a board member is a time commitment, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences you will have as a parent at East.  Not only will you meet and develop fantastic friendships, you will also have many opportunities to work closely with our band students and their families, and provide valuable input about the band program and activities in the future.

IT’S FALL—THE PERFECT TIME TO ORDER HOT DRINKS FROM THE MILL

The Mill and the Boosters are teaming up with a coffee/tea/hot chocolate/cider fundraiser! Everyone knows someone who likes coffee! Students will make $5.50 per coffee bag sold and $5 per tea bag sold.
