Weekly Announcements 12-17-18
FROM THE DESK OF MR. THORPE
*NEW on this week’s announcements:
(Full Band) Audition music is now out for next year’s (2019-2020 school year)
ensembles. EVERY STUDENT will submit a video. We only get a couple chances
per year to hear you play individually so it’s important that we hear your best
effort. We will talk through the video recording process after break.
(Jazz Band) Prep Jazz rosters are now up! Check in the hallway outside of the
band room to see what group you will be in. Rehearsals will start the 3rd week of
2nd semester (January 22nd or 23rd). If you have any issues with your roster
assignment, please talk to Mr. Kenney.
(Full Band) It’s now official: We will have our first percussion class at East next
year! What this means for all percussionists is this: 1st semester will not change
at all. 2nd semester, instead of being in a class with the rest of the woodwind and
brass players, you will meet during a separate class period (all grades 9-12) We
are still working out logistics on how we will combine for concerts. This is a
significant change but one that we feel has tremendous benefits and is the best
addition for our program.
(Full Band) Last week of gift wrapping! Please sign up here –we need your help!

Reminders from previous announcements:
(Jazz Band) Next semester there will be two prep jazz bands. Who is in what
group is based mostly on individuals’ availability. Rosters for each group will be
posted by December 14th.
(Jazz Band) Blue Note Jazz Band auditions will happen during finals week. Mr.
Kenney will hear your audition during your scheduled band final.
(Full Band) Now is the time to start thinking about next year’s schedule. We’d like
you to remember that there are other music classes that are not ensembles that
we’d like to fill up. Guitar I, Guitar II, Music Theory, Music Technology all only
happen if enough students sign up for them. If you are looking for an extra class,
please keep these in mind.
(Full Band) Remaining Concert Dates: Feb. 12, Apr. 8, Apr. 15, and May 14.
(Full Band) Mark your calendars: The 2019 Band Informational Meeting for
Parents AND Students is Thursday, May 9th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium. This
meeting is MANDATORY.
