(Full Band) ​​Last Football Game this Friday, 8:00pm. See itinerary. The make-up Band Senior Recognition WILL BE at halftime.

(Full Band) ​​There will be a mandatory meeting for ALL ACTIVITIES Tuesday, October 9th during PLC time in the Auditorium. All Band students ​​must be there! If you are in any activity such as Band, Choir, Orchestra, Speech, etc. this is a required meeting. Attendance will be taken.

(Full Band) ​​Congrats to Nate Lee and Micah Friesen for being selected for the LPS All-Star Brass. This group is made of two band members from each of the 6 LPS High Schools and will perform the National Anthem at the Contest this Saturday.

(Full Band) ​​All-State results will be posted on Wednesday, October 17th. Let Mr. T. know if you’d like your recording to use for another audition and he can email it to you.

(Full Band) ​​TODAY, Monday, Oct. 8th is the deadline to upload auditions for Doane Honor Band.

(10-12 Band) ​​ LAST Leadership meeting Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m. Tubas & Percussion bring treats.

(9th Grade Band) ​​ JYO auditions will be held Nov. 7th and there are openings for Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion. See the attachment for audition music.

ADDITIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM MR. THORPE

We are attempting to make-up our Senior Recognition at this last home game.  Even though it’s short notice, we felt it a better option than delaying it until basketball season.  You’ll find details on the itinerary.  I apologize for the cancellation of last Friday’s but we felt it was the right call, given the fact that we needed healthy kids and dry uniforms for Grand Island.

Also, I’d like to say thank you to all those who helped out in GI.  From pit crew, uniform helpers, bus chaperones, truck unloading, loading, unloading, and loading again,  THANK YOU ALL.  It was a great day for our kids but that doesn’t happen without a great team of selfless volunteers to be on-call for whatever is needed.  We had a large showing of supporters both in the parade and the field show.  Thank you for making the trip and cheering on our Spartans.

Lastly, I wanted to share a little glimpse behind the curtain of our performance (10-12 do this and 9th grade will soon add it to their show).  Before we step on the field, one student is chosen to lead our cheer.  The student is usually a senior and maybe not a section leader or all-stater but a student that has shown pride and dedication on a daily basis.  This has become somewhat of an honor over the past few years and I like how it has now become a tradition.  (In fact, in all the chaos before stepping on at Capital City I forgot and the kids did it anyway.)  So the one student yells at the top of their lungs, “Everyone Accounts for Success Today.” and the band shouts “EAST!!!!!!”  This motto came from a leadership training day a few years ago and has just stuck.  It’s meant to serve as a last second pump-up and a reminder of what we’re about.  That we are ALL important and that no one can do this alone.  So if you’ve ever wondered what is going on or what is being said, there you go.

As I told the students today, our weekends get significantly easier after Grand Island.  We will continue to improve on both our shows this week and drive to get our best run on Saturday.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE LAST FOOTBALL GAME THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12TH
We are in need of several volunteers to help with the final football game of the season this Friday, October 12th:

*Pit Crew (load band equipment into the trailer and unload at Seacrest Field at half-time; load the equipment in the trailer after half-time and unload at the school)–we could use 5 more volunteers;

*Uniform Assistants (assist students with uniforms, shining shoes, pluming hats, etc.)–we need 8 more people;

*Water Coordinators (distributing bottled water during half-time)-we need 2 people for the half-time shift;

*Band Wranglers (sitting with the 9th graders at half-time to monitor behavior and ensure the safety of the students)–we need 5 people;

*Color Guard Assistants (assist with hair and makeup)–we need 2 volunteers

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LPS CONTEST THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13TH
We are in need of some parent helpers during the LPS Contest this Saturday.  We need parents to help with Warm-Up Field Management and Parking Management (see #1 below). We also need parents to help the Band (see #2 below).

  1.  GENERAL VOLUNTEERS 

East’s Tri-M is in charge of volunteering at the LPS Competition this Saturday, and we are filling jobs including Judge Assistants, Band Hosts, etc.  We are still looking for a few people to be Warm-Up Field Managers (keeping time on the Warm-Up Field, telling bands when it’s time to head to Seacrest) and Parking Managers (helping direct the buses in to park.)  Since the majority of our Tri-M population is in band and occupied for half the day, we thought these two positions would be good for parents interested in volunteering.  There are two shifts – one from 9:30-2:00 and the other from 2:00-6:00, roughly.  The morning shift would be great for 10-12th grade parents since East performs at 3:00 p.m.  The afternoon shift would be great for 9th grade parents.  Since the 9th Grade Band is the last to perform, the afternoon shift wouldn’t conflict with their performance!  We really only need 1 person per shift, but it’s never a bad thing to have extra adults around.  We will find a place for people who want to help!

2.  BAND VOLUNTEERS 

Our competition season is almost finished, but not yet!  We need just a few volunteers to help during the LPS Contest this Saturday including:

CONTEST ADMISSION
Tickets to attend the LPS Contest this Saturday are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.  Tickets can be purchased for cash only.

SIGN UP TO BE A MEMBER OF THE EAST BAND SHUTTERFLY SHARED SITE
The Band Boosters have set up a shared Shutterfly account for band parents to post and share band pictures.  If you have any band pictures that you would like to share with other band parents, or if you would like to access band pictures taken by other parents, please email the Executive Board at eastbandexecutiveboard@gmail.com and ask to be added as a member.  We will then add your email address to the membership list. You will receive an invitation from Shutterfly to join the site.  After you accept the invitation, you will then be able to post and access pictures and purchase photo products from Shutterfly.

IT’S FALL—THE PERFECT TIME TO ORDER HOT DRINKS FROM THE MILL

The Mill and the Boosters are teaming up with a coffee/tea/hot chocolate/cider fundraiser! Everyone knows someone who likes coffee! Students will make $5.50 per coffee bag sold and $5 per tea bag sold. LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE BAND??   Consider Joining the Booster Board for the 2019-2020 Year!
The Booster Board is seeking new board leadership next year to replace outgoing members.  We are looking for:

Vice President (2-year commitment with accession to President in the second year) – assists with fundraisers/identification of project chairs, assumes duties of President when necessary, assists with board operations and other duties as assigned

Treasurer – keeps all financial records of the Band Boosters, disburses all monies as required, prepares monthly reports and other duties as assigned

Communications Director/Media – responsible for distributing communications to the parents from band directors and Booster Board, prepares flyers and materials for fundraisers, prepares sign-ups for volunteer opportunities, maintains band website and coordinates with social media band leaders about posts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. and other duties as assigned

Serving as a board member is a time commitment, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences you will have as a parent at East.  Not only will you meet and develop fantastic friendships, you will also have many opportunities to work closely with our band students and their families, and provide valuable input about the band program and activities in the future.

LINCOLN EAST BAND VENDOR AND CRAFT FAIR IS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH FROM 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. IN THE GYMS
Please mark your calendars to attend the 2018 Lincoln East Band Vendor and Craft Fair on Sunday, November 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the East gyms.  We will have more than 100 direct sales vendors and crafters available for all of your holiday shopping needs! We will also have gift wrapping and lunch available. We will need a lot of adult and student volunteers to help us.  Students can earn service hours for volunteering!  You can even shop while you volunteer!!  The sign up sheet will be available soon!!  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Please spread the word to your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, church friends–everyone you can think of!  If you know of anyone who might want to set up a booth at the fair, please have them email the Chair, Sonya Brakeman, at sbrakeman1971@yahoo.com.
