*NEW on this week’s announcements:

(Full Band)  ​​NSBA State Marching Festival is this Saturday and closes out the Marching Band season.  Find the Itinerary posted.

(Full Band)​​  Next week, 10/22-26 is known as “Transition Week.”  We will do pep tunes in class so marching instruments will be used.  During that week, we’ll be checking out school concert instruments like bass clarinets, French horns, etc. The following week we’ll start with concert band music.

(Full Band)​​  There will be a Sign up Genius for any students who would like some service hours by playing for the Lincoln Half-Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 28th.  We will meet at Morley Elementary and you must wear blue band polos.  More details soon.

 (9th Grade Band) ​​ JYO auditions will be held Nov. 7th and there are openings for Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion.  See the attachment for audition music.

Reminders from previous announcements:

(Full Band)  ​​All-State results will be posted on Wednesday, October 17th.  Let Mr. T. know if you’d like your recording to use for another audition and he can email it to you.

(Full Band)​​  Wayne St. College Festival of Honor Bands will be held on Saturday, January 26th.  You will find ALL audition instructions and materials at www.wsc.edu/honor-band​​.  Please follow the Audition Instructions found on the website when making and submitting auditions.

(Full Band)  ​UNO Woodwind Day details are in the office.

(Full Band)  ​Nebraska Wesleyan Honor Band details are now available.  See attachment for full details.

WE ARE IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS FOR NSBA CONTEST AND PIZZA PARTY THIS WEEKEND

*Move and set up equipment (“Pit Crew”)—we could use 6 more volunteers;

*Assist student with uniforms (“Uniform Assistants”)—we need 4 more volunteers

*Assist with Color Guard (“Color Guard Assistants”)—we need 1 volunteer to help with hair and make up.

This is our last band event and the end of the marching season. To celebrate, we will have a pizza party from 5:30-6:00 in the Concourse by the East Gyms.   We need 10 volunteers to help set up, serve pizza, keep drinks and snacks stocked and clean up between 5:00-6:30 p.m.

SECOND AND LAST CHANCE TO ORDER SHOW SHIRTS

We have discovered that we need to place a second order for show shirts.  This will be the last chance you will have to order a show shirt if you want one.

  1. You may send your order form with your cash or check payment with your student to give it to Mr. Thorpe OR, you may send your payment to the East Office, Attn:  Band Boosters, 1000 South 70th Street, Lincoln, 68510. Order forms and payments must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 22nd. NO EXCEPTIONS!!   We WILL NOT process your order if payment is not included with the order form, nor will we process any orders received after the deadline.  
  2. We must have a minimum of 12 shirts in the 9th grade band shirt to print another batch of those shirts.  If we do not receive the minimum order of 12 for that shirt, we will not be able to print them.  We will then return your check to you.
  3. We must have a minimum of 12 shirts in the 10th-12th grade band shirt to print another batch of those shirts.  If we do not receive the minimum order of 12 for that shirt, we will not be able to print them.  We will then return your check to you.
  4. Any orders taken during this second round of orders WILL NOT arrive until marching season is over.
  5. The Booster Board is not responsible for orders that are not received by the deadline. We encourage you to confirm with us that your payment was received, especially if you send your order and payment with your band student.

YARD SIGNS ARE READY

If you ordered a yard sign with your student’s name on it, your order is ready for pick up!  Please contact Miki Valenta at eastbandexecutiveboard@gmail.com to make arrangements.

LINCOLN EAST BAND VENDOR AND CRAFT FAIR

Please mark your calendar to attend the 2nd annual Vendor and Craft Fair on Sunday, November 18th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the East Gyms. This is a fundraiser to support the band!

We will have 100 direct sales vendors and craftspeople to help you with all of your holiday shopping needs!!  We will have booths for everyone from Tupperware to Thirty-One, from LuLuRoe to Scentsy, from jewelry and metal artists to honey and tea vendors.

Gift wrapping will be available (free-will donation suggested).

Lunch will also be available.

We will be asking for adult and student volunteers for the event.  Students can earn service hours for helping out!  Volunteers are welcome to shop during their shift.

We will have a sign up sheet available soon.  More information will also be available at the November Parent Meeting!!

GIFT WRAPPING AT GATEWAY IS COMING SOON!!!

Marching band season is coming to and end and you know what that means????  Gift wrapping at Gateway will soon be here!!

Every year, the band students and their parents volunteer to provide gift wrapping services to shoppers at Gateway Mall from the weekend after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve.  Shifts are in the evenings during the week and all day on the weekends.

This is our largest fundraiser of the year and it takes A LOT of volunteers to pull it off.

We will be asking for volunteers, not only to help gift wrap, but to also donate gift wrapping supplies including high-quality wrapping paper, ribbon/bows, tissue paper, boxes, etc.

LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE BAND??  Consider Joining the Booster Board for the 2019-2020 Year

The Booster Board is seeking new board leadership next year to replace outgoing members.  We are looking for:

Vice President (2-year commitment with accession to President in the second year) – assists with fundraisers/identification of project chairs, assumes duties of President when necessary, assists with board operations and other duties as assigned.

Treasurer – keeps all financial records of the Band Boosters, disburses all monies as required, prepares monthly reports and other duties as assigned.

Communications Director/Media – responsible for distributing communications to the parents from band directors and Booster Board, prepares flyers and materials for fundraisers, prepares sign-ups for volunteer opportunities, maintains band website and coordinates with social media band leaders about posts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. and other duties as assigned.

Serving as a board member is a time commitment, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences you will have as a parent at East.  Not only will you meet and develop fantastic friendships, you will also have many opportunities to work closely with our band students and their families, and provide valuable input about the band program and activities in the future.

WHO DOESN’T LOVE A GOOD MOVIE? MARCUS MOVIE THEATER TICKETS AND GIFT CARDS ARE AVAILABLE

Fall blockbuster movies are coming your way!  Get prepared by placing an order for discounted Marcus Movie Theater tickets and gift cards.  Not only easy, your purchase helps the band!!  Orders are due to Chair Paula Williams by the 10th of each month.

IT’S FALL—THE PERFECT TIME TO ORDER HOT DRINKS FROM THE MILL

The Mill and the Boosters are teaming up with a coffee/tea/hot chocolate/cider fundraiser! Everyone knows someone who likes coffee! Students will make $5.50 per coffee bag sold and $5 per tea bag sold. Money earned will go towards the band.  Monthly orders will be accepted at the monthly booster meetings.  Orders will then be ready within about a week.  Visit the Band’s website at www.lincolneastband.org.  Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Fundraisers” to access the order forms.  Please contact Miki Valenta at eastbandexecutiveboard@gmail.com if you have any questions.
