*NEW on this week’s announcements:

(Full Band) The video audition upload is due THIS Friday, January 25th. You may
receive partial credit if it is submitted by Friday, Feb. 1st. After Feb. 1st, the grade
is a ZERO in the grade book.*If you would like to record at school, set up an appointment with Mr. T.
*All percussionists will submit an audition –you may want to record here at
school, either before, after, or during 5th period.
*We have uploaded the “instructions for upload” in the classroom. Please DON’T
SEND VIDEOS via email attachment. Remember, try to get several recordings
from different days so you have a selection to choose from. DON’T wait until
Friday night to start and try to record 10 takes (or more) in one sitting.

(Full Band) Registration for next year’s classes: Our rosters will not be finalized
until after a majority of students have registered, so the registrar would like us to
enroll in either Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble . Please remember that
whatever band you are in is a full year class, but you need to enroll in it by

(Pep Band) Games: Saturday — Western theme, 2:45pm report time. We will let
you know when the snowed out game from last Friday (and then again Tuesday) is
to be made up.

(Jazz Bands) Prep Jazz groups start THIS week! Horizons meets Tues-Thurs and
Faction meets Wed-Fri, both at 7:15am in the morning.

(Solo/Ensemble) Solo/Ensemble participants: Look for Souper Bowl Supper times
soon and the LPS schedule to be released as well. Now is the time to make sure
you have the original music for the judge numbered. If your group would like to
be considered to perform at the February concert, please let Mr. Thorpe or Ms.
Shively know this week.

(Full Band) We are having a pizza party on Saturday, February 9th , at 5:00 p.m. at
Sonya Brakeman’s house (4044 G Street) to say ‘thank you’ to our volunteers, both
parents and students, who volunteered during gift-wrapping fundraiser.
We also want to celebrate the victory of the trombone section, which won the
Gift-wrapping Challenge during the last week of the event!

(Full Band) Also, congratulations for winning the Spartan Village clothing drive!
The band led all groups in donations (so thank your parents).

(Full Band) The LPS Tri-M Chapters are collaborating to host a district-wide Music
Festival! The Festival will host performances from students around LPS with
special guest performances from other UNL and community groups. If you have a
band, small group, solo, or other talent show-esque musical performance, we
want YOU to perform in the show! Save the date for March 30th at North Star High
School! All proceeds from the event will go to district Tri-M Chapters, and a
portion will be donated to the Yankee Hill Education Center music department.

Reminders from previous announcements:

(Full Band) It’s now official: We will have our first percussion class at East next
year! What this means for all percussionists is this: 1st semester will not change
at all. 2nd semester, instead of being in a class with the rest of the woodwind and
brass players, you will meet during a separate class period (all grades 9-12) We
are still working out logistics on how we will combine for concerts. This is a
significant change but one that we feel has tremendous benefits and is the best
addition for our program.

(Full Band) Now is the time to start thinking about next year’s schedule. We’d like
you to remember that there are other music classes that are not ensembles that
we’d like to fill up. Guitar I, Guitar II, Music Theory, Music Technology all only
happen if enough students sign up for them. If you are looking for an extra class,
please keep these in mind.

(Full Band) Remaining Concert Dates: Feb. 12, Apr. 8, Apr. 15, and May 14.

(Full Band) Mark your calendars: The 2019 Band Informational Meeting for
Parents AND Students is Thursday, May 9th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium. This
meeting is MANDATORY.

(Full Band) Congratulations to the following students for being selected to the
Nebraska Wesleyan Honor Band: Isaac Cary, Rose Jorgensen, Minjae Song, and
Blake Welch.

You’ve heard us say again and again that band is family.  That’s because our students and their parents lean on one another, support each other, step up to help when help is needed and are there for each other.  The Band needs your help, and we hope you will be there for us!  We need your support more than ever.  HOW CAN YOU HELP?  There are several options for you to help the band:

  1. Join the Booster Board for the 2019-2020 Year–we are looking for a Vice President (a two year commitment) and a Communications Director (to start taking over the current Director’s duties next year)
  2. Volunteer–We are looking for several Committee Chairs (August Tailgate Party, Booster Blitz, Water Coordinator, Scholarship Committee, Gift Wrapping, Amazon Wish List Coordinator, etc.).  We also need volunteers to help out during our upcoming fundraisers, special events and football games.
  3. Monetarily–Without financial support from our band families, we don’t have a band program.  We need your support now more than ever!
      1. We NEED parents to pay their annual parent contribution of $100 or more (this is the money we use to support the band’s operations)–if you haven’t paid your family contribution yet, please do so now!!!  We will set up a payment plan for you if necessary.
      2. Attend/Participate in fundraisers and special events–Tailgate Party, Booster Blitz, Craft Fair, Gift Wrapping, Baker ‘s Chocolate, Marcus Theater Tickets, The Mill Coffee, Tea, Cocoa and Cider, etc.
      3. Write a check–we will always and gladly accept donations!
      4. Support the Lincoln East Band Amazon Wish List.




What is an Amazon Wish List? It is a registry service on Amazon.com that allows people and groups to create a wish list and share it online so others may select gifts on that list. The East band directors have put together a list of the instruments and equipment they need the most.  The list will be updated periodically as items are purchased and new items are added to the wish list.

Please come and support the band by dining out at Don and Millie’s (84th and O) on Tuesday, January 29th, from 4:00-8:00 p.m.  HOW CAN YOU HELP?  Dine out, feed your family and support the band at the same time!



Please mark your calendar to attend the next Booster Parent Meeting on Thursday, February 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room.  We will be talking about activities and events coming up this spring and HOW YOU CAN HELP support the band.  Everyone is welcome to attend!!




the Trombones!!   Their section worked the most number of hours, on a percentage basis, the last week of giftwrapping!  Way to go, Trombones!!!

We are beginning to work on the year-end band video which will be shown at the last concert in May.  HOW CAN YOU HELP?? We are looking for pictures from ALL of the bands (marching, concert, jazz, etc.) as well as our special events (Tailgate, Booster Blitz, football games, basketball games, competitions, Craft Fair, giftwrapping, band camp, etc.) to add to the video.  If you have pictures that we can use, please email the Booster Board at eastbandexecutiveboard@gmail.com, and we will send you an invite to upload those pictures to the band’s Shutterfly shared account.  Thanks!!!



We are looking for about 10 students to help with the year-end video we will present at the last band concert in May.  Volunteers will be asked to help come up with ideas for the video and then help execute those ideas through the collection of pictures, videos, graphics and music.  Students from all grade levels and all sections are welcome to help!  Students can earn service hours for volunteering.
