ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM MR. THORPE 10-3-18

October 3, 2018 By

Parents,

A few items:

1)  We just received word that our 10-12 Field Performance time has been changed from 6:30 to 6:15pm Saturday.  This doesn’t change a lot as we had plenty of time to warm-up beforehand and will mainly mean we hopefully get back home fifteen minutes earlier!  Updated complete stadium schedule is attached.

2)  Parade route also attached.  For those traveling out to GI, see the attached parade route and find a place along the route to camp out and grab some hot chocolate!  The parade is starting at 8:00am with us stepping off approximately 8:40am.

3)  Weather:  Please keep in mind that as much as we want to perform at every event on our calendar, sometimes weather works against us.  If it is raining either Friday for the game or Saturday for GI, we will make decisions with what’s best for the group.  Safety is always first, maintaining our instruments and equipment is second.  Extended amounts of moisture are not good for our instruments and in some cases, can ruin pads, resulting in a lot of money for repairs, both for the student and for the school.  Our budget is stretched this as it is!

Again, like we tell the students, assume everything is on and plan accordingly.  Also, my intent is to keep you informed but not overwhelmed with emails.

9th graders come in early again tomorrow morning –Tuesday was a great rehearsal!  We are way ahead of where we were last year at this point.   The 9th graders also marched and played their whole show today 2nd period and what an accomplishment!  I spoke to them about the amount of pride I have (and they should to) about the fact that there are not too many 9th graders in the state that are doing what they are.

The 10-12 band has made huge strides the past 2 days and I know they have a great desire to improve their performance from Saturday.

Thank you all for your continued support and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Mr. Thorpe
